How Weight Lifting Makes You Healthier and Happier
People spend untold amounts of time and money going to doctors, counselors, therapists and “life coaches” trying to improve self confidence, increase self esteem, make themselves more attractive, have more energy and feel better. The sad and simple truth is that most times these efforts fail. Weight lifting and muscle building can accomplish every one of these things in three hours a week.
Everyone agrees that a fit well built body is attractive. What most people don’t get is that it’s easier to have that than they think. Three, one hour workouts a week, doing the right kind of exercises can, over time, give you the body that any one would be proud to have. Improving ones physique is the best way to boost self confidence and
self esteem. You are improving your self the old fashioned way, you will have earned it.
Secondly, muscle building makes it easier to stay trim and lean. For every pound of muscle you gain, your body burns 50 more calories a day just existing. This means if you added 10 pounds of muscle your body would consume 500 calories a day, or a 25% increase in average calorie needs. You can eat MORE and not gain fat! Or eat the same and get leaner and leaner. Obviously the less fat the better and the healthier.
Thirdly, as you add even small amounts of muscle, your energy levels will sky rocket. Your bodies metabolism goes up for up to 48 hours after a weight lifting workout. So even though you give up three hours a week of time to working out, you actually become more productive due to greatly increased energy levels.
Getting exercise of any kind will make you a healthier and happier person. But weight lifting has the added benefit of making you stronger and leaner.
