How To Be Great (or at least get started, make a change or move to the next level)

So you’re here, now what? If you’ve found this site you have decided to explore one of the above motives. Congratulations, the desire for self improvement (which is what muscle building is), is at the core of every successful person. I think everybody, subconsciously, have this desire, just not everybody acts on it. The reasons for not are many, but at the head of the list is not knowing HOW to CONSCIOUSLY self improve. And I don’t mean the specifics of each area that you may be seeking to improve in.

For example, everybody knows if you wish to be more educated, you go to school or read. For improving your strength or physique, you “work out”. What I’m talking about is how do I do IT! To be successful at self improvement. Like all things, there are ways to drastically increase your chances of getting started, making a serious life change or taking something you already do well to the next level.

Step 1: Think great thoughts. Well you’ve done that, you’re here. You realize you wish to be “different” than you are, and you want that difference to be “better”.

Step 2: Pursue great people. Or as I like to do, watch what the successful people in the area you are interested in are doing, and copy it. Some would say, find a mentor. I say, absolutely! But not completely necessary. Did you know that you have a 150% higher chance of being obese if your inner circle of friends are? A 100% higher chance if your best friend is? When you think about it, it seems obvious this would be the case. You are who you associate with. So use this to your advantage. Associate more with the people that are already doing what you want to do.

Step3: Develop great habits. Now this is much easier if you are hanging more with people that are being successful at what you want to do. Which is why you should.

Step 4: Enjoy great moments. Once you start experiencing success in your new area of interest, live it, love it, and scream out loud about it. You have earned it.

Step 5: Dream great dreams. Success only brings more success. It’s the cycle of widely successful people.

So putting this plan into a practical example would look something like this:

You make the decision to lose 30 lbs. Step 1

Spend more time hanging with your thinner friends than your thicker ones. Join weight watchers. Join a gym. Place your self in areas where you can associate with people that live healthier life styles. Step 2

Don’t hang out at Dunkin Donuts. Stay away from Pizza Hut. If you are spending time with people who live a healthier life style, this is made easier because they don’t go to these places. And when you are with your heavy friends politely suggest they not require you to go to them as a condition of hanging out. Step 3

You step on the scales and you are 5 lbs lighter. Write it down and hang it up where you can see it. Tell anybody who is encouraging you about it so you can bask in their praise. This is how you reward your self. Going to Pizza Hut is NOT a reward. Step 4

Why stop at 30 lbs? Get back down to your high school weight! Step 5

Or:

I’ve decided to take my max bench from 250 to 300. Step 1

Is your lifting partner on the same page? If not find another one. We are here to lift not talk. Watch the guys who ARE benching 300. What’s their chest routine? Their workout schedule. What are they eating? How much rest do they get? Find out as much as you can from these success stories and incorporate it into your workouts. Step 2

Are you in the right gym? Some gyms are better suited for your new goals. Take the info gleaned from your new contacts and copy it. They had to be doing some things different than you were. Step 3

You bench 300 for the first time for 1 rep. Make sure everybody knows it was a personal best. The guys who appreciate this type of effort and success will know how to respond. Step 4

While you were setting your best at 300, your newer training buddies just went 350. Step 5
