Every bodybuilder has heard of (and most agree on the importance of) Creatine Monohydrate. However, the problem with Creatine has been the fat that it is not absorbed well by the cells in your body. That has meant taking tons of the stuff in order to do your cells any good. While the benefits to muscle building are without compare (at least when compared to other legal supplements), taking enough Creatine to do some good has also resulted in bloating, dehydration and cramping. To fix this problem, scientists have developed a Creatine combined with an Ester attached. Esters are organic compounds that are formed by the process of Esterification, which is the reaction of Carboxylic Acid and Alcohols. Almost like magic, the world had Esterified Creatine.
Esterified Creatine is a highly soluble Creatine that provides advanced absorption into your cells. So instead of having to drown your system in Creatine for absorption, Esterified Creatine directly penetrates the muscle cells resulting in a far more functional Creatine. One type of Esterified Creatine is BSN Cellmass. It claims that its use does away with "loading," "cycling," hard to swallow tablets, sugar, stomach bloat water retention, and up and down old-fashioned Creatine weight gain. This article will give you an idea of what Esterified Creatine has done for some other bodybuilders and you can decide if it fits into your diet and supplementation regimen.
Testimonials that I reviewed seemed to fall into two categories: Those written by serious bodybuilders and those written by people expecting results with no effort. For those that combined the product with a decent, regimented bodybuilding diet and workout, the results seem to be about 90% favorable. For the remaining 10% who I would describe as "real bodybuilders" the product had little or no effect. Positive results described by the 90% included lean mass gains, higher "personal bests" less muscle pain and faster recovery times.
For those who used BSN Cellmass without incorporating much of a workout program or a sketchy (fast food!) diet results were just about reverse from the above. About 10% reported some positive effect (probably due to the mild weight-loss characteristics of Esterified Creatine) while 90% reported no positive effects. I imagine the results might have been the same regardless of the supplement that was being reviewed.
One interesting result that was mentioned in many of the testimonials regardless of whether the author was a bodybuilder or a couch potato was that the product tasted really good. Having tasted a lot of supplements out there I can tell you that finding one that tastes good is always a plus.
The bottom line is that if you are serious about your workouts, Creatine Monohydrate is good, but Esterified Creatine is better. Of the Esterified Creatines available, this product seems to get good reviews. While the benefits of any supplement must be evaluated thoroughly by the individual based upon his or her own goals, BSN Cellmass does appear to provide a good alternative to regular Creatine.
