2:44 PM 12/22/2007  Dealing with “The Holidays”

If it’s not hard enough to eat well and find workout time already, let’s add in “The Holidays”.  Lots more food and drink and even less free time than normal.  Most people say, hey it’s only a couple weeks, I’ve earned it, I’ll get on track after the New Year.  You can do that.  But it’s all relative.  Have you earned it?  If you have you probably won’t REALLY take this approach.  Why?  Because you KNOW what it takes to make up for that 2 week lapse.  People that have the discipline to work hard and save money for years don’t fly to Vegas or go to the mall and blow it all on a 2 week spending spree so that they can come home and start over.  That’s not who they are.  Ditto on finding workout time.   People that are committed to health, fitness and muscle building don’t blow 50 weeks of doing it right to have 2 weeks of doing it wrong.  The lesson here is that I don’t “deal with the holidays”.  I feel no more pressure to eat bad and skip workouts now than any other time of the year.  It’s not who I am.  Sure I eat some stuff this time of year that I might not if it wasn’t everywhere.  But I do that at 4th of July cookouts too.  And sometimes at 10:30 pm on any given night.  But I don’t fight to keep it from overwhelming me.  It’s not who I am.  I want to be of good health.  I want to build muscle.  I like to workout.  It’s who I am.  But I wasn’t always this person.  Healthy living can consume you just like living unhealthily can.  So I know I’ve earned it.  But I won’t do it.  It’s not who I am.  Who are YOU?

Have a Safe and Healthy Holiday
